In the present case study the improvement in one day strength in Portland Pozzolana
Cement (PPC) was done with different methods. PPC were collected from an operating
cement plant of UltraTech Cement Ltd. with annual cement capacity of 2.75 million
tonnes approximately in eastern India. Cement samples were collected from the plant
and also from the other major competitor cement players available in market. The
physical properties such as Blaine Surface Area, Setting Time, Normal Consistency
and Compressive Strength of 1, 3, 7 & 28 days of all collected cement samples were
determined. It was observed that one day strength was having scope for further
improvement. Keeping in view the one day strength and its impact on customer
satisfaction, the project was taken up and the team was formed to start the project.
Brainstorming on the issue was done and a number of ideas generated. Each idea was
critically studied thoroughly with a positive and negative impactonprocess. Use of
mineral gypsum in place of chemical gypsum was found suitable from quality, cost and
process point of view.
